Make the beaded hearts first
Method:
1.Cover the flattest side of the wooden hearts with DSSP, making sure the DSSP edges are cut flush to the hearts.
2.Make the large heart:
Twist together the ends of a length of each of the purple and silver wires (approx 200mm long).
String beads along the wires, choosing randomly from your bead selection, sometimes threading them over both wires, sometimes over only the purple wire.
When the purple wire only has beads, wind the silver wire around a large needle to create spirals and then rejoin the wires together to continue stringing the beads. (See picture below)
When the beaded wire is long enough, fashion it into a heart shape that fits onto the 40mm heart shape, twist the ends together, trim and wind the ends behind the beads out of sight.
Remove the top piece of backing from the DSSP and arrange the bead heart onto the sticky tile, pushing it down firmly to ensure it adheres tightly to the tile.
Emboss as instructed below.
3.Make the three matching small hearts:
For each heart thread two lengths each of the purple and silver wires (each approx 200mm long) through a large clear bead (ie: 4 pieces of wire in total).
The bead should be approx 20mm from the end of the wire. Wrap the wire around the bead and twist the short ends around the longer. (See picture below). The bead will form the centre of the heart.
Spread the long ends of the wires out, so that one purple and one silver wire goes to each side. Thread beads along the wire, as above, until the beaded wire is long enough to create the heart shape. Twist the two beaded lengths together (forming the base of the heart), trim the ends and hide them behind the wire.
Adhere each wire heart to a wooden heart, (as for the large heart).
Emboss as instructed below.
4. Make the small heart:
Take a length of purple wire approx 100mm long.
Fold it in half, and thread both ends through a purple bead.
Fashion a love heart that will fit onto the small wooden heart, twist the ends together and trim.
Take a piece of silver wire approx 400-500mm long.
Thread approx 15 small beads onto it, twisting the wires together with each bead, so that the beads appear to sprout from the wire. (See picture below)
Wind this around the purple wire heart, allowing the beads to stick out at all angles.
When finished, adhere it to the wooden heart.
Emboss as instructed below.
5.Emboss each heart:
Pour the embossing enamel over the heart. It will stick to the DSST around the wire and beads. Tip off excess enamel and collect for re-use.
Heat the tile with the heat tool, until the embossing enamel melts.
While the tile is still hot and sticky, cover it with more embossing enamel, then tip off the excess.
Repeat the heat, melt, add embossing enamel routine 2-3 more times until you have a thick coating of enamel over the hearts and around the beads, holding them firmly in place. Allow to cool.
THREE HEARTS
Method:
1.Score and fold a piece of French Vanilla Card 150mm x 185mm in half to make a card.
2.Copy the provided template onto Graph paper using the lead pencil. Trim around the edges of the template so it is the same size as your card base.
3.Open the card, and place the template over the front section. Using a needle, make small holes through the template and card to mark the corners of the four squares onto the card. (Shown with a red cross of the template).
Remove the template.
4.Use a craft knife and metal ruler to cut the three squares out of the card front, using the needle holes as your guide. Roll a punch wheel around the outside of each square hole made.
5.Trim 10mm of both the length and width of each of the three card squares that were cut from the card. Roll a punch wheel around the edge of each. Use clear sticky dots to adhere a small wooden heart to each square.
6.On the inside of the card, Adhere a piece of web paper 55mm x 165mm covering the 3 square holes. Over this, layer a piece of Blackberry card, 72mm x 181mm.
7.Close the card again , and adhere a prepared small heart into the centre of each square.
I LOVE YOU
Method:
1. Score and fold a piece of French Vanilla Card 270mm x 135mm in half to make a card.
2. From French Vanilla Card cut 3 rectangles and using the rub on alphabet stickers, spell “I” (17mm x 21mm piece), “LoVe” (40mm x 24mm piece) and “yOu” (41mm x 26mm piece) onto them. Cut a square 50mm x 50mm. Roll a punch wheel around the edge of each.
3.From Blackberry card cut 2 rectangles (22mm x 27mm) and (69mm x 13mm); a square 60mm x 60mm; and using the Friskars ShapeCutter system and hearts template, a 2.00” heart. Roll a punch wheel around the edge of each.
4. Set the eyelets into the Blackberry love heart and 69mm x 13mm rectangle, as shown. Then set six eyelets down the right hand side of the card, as shown.
5. Use DSST to attach the French Vanilla square onto the Blackberry square, and then secure this in the centre of the card. Adhere the “Love” rectangle onto the Blackberry love heart using DSST, then use foam mounting tape to secure this onto the card Use the photo to help with positioning of all the pieces.
6. Secure the prepared wooden heart to the card using clear sticky dots.
7. Assemble the “I” and “yOu” as shown, using DSST, and then secure them to the card using foam mounting tape.
LOVE AND PASSION
1. Score and fold a piece of French Vanilla Card 240mm x 120mm in half to make a card.
2.Cut two strips of Blackberry card 120mm x 7mm each. Roll the punch wheel down each long edge. Attach to the card with DSST. Use the photo to help with the positioning. Tear a strip of Blackberry card 120mm x (approx) 50 – 60mm. Attach it to the card with DSST.
3. Using the Friskars ShapeCutter system and hearts template cut a French Vanilla heart 2.00” and Blackberry heart 1.50”. Roll the punch wheel around the edge of each. Secure onto the card using DSST as shown, attaching the prepared wooden heart on top using clear sticky dots.
4. From French Vanilla card cut a rectangle 46mm x 12mm, and another 60mm x 12mm. Using the rub on stickers, write “Love” on the first and “Passion” on the second. Set 2 round eyelets after the words, as shown. Secure these to the card using foam mounting tape.
Here are three more cards, which are variations on the Valentine Glitter Heart Card.
The instructions for making the glitter hearts is here and the instructions for making a card with a window in the front are here.
This card used a smaller heart, so the window and the backing piece of card are also smaller. Use the same method with graph paper as used for the previous card, and purple background card instead of a pink. Instead of measuring in 37mm from each border of the graph paper, I measured in 42mm.
This card is very similar to the one above.
Before the heart was adhered into the central square, a scrap of square paper was used to cover the central square and a furthur 1cm border around the central square.
The dragonfly was then stamped randomly over the card using dark blue ink, and embossed using clear embossing enamel. (The stamp was: Small Dragonfly 1760C by STAMP-IT). Blue and purple chalk were then rubbed softly over the area.
The mask was then removed and the small heart adhered into the centre.
The card used a larger heart, and therefore a larger window needed to be cut from the card front. Instead of measuring in 37mm from each border of the graph paper, I measured in 23mm. Silver microbeads and star sequins were used as well as beads when making the Glitter Heart.
